(1945)
Led by General Patton himself, the 3rd Army began their major offensive in France against the Nazis. The soldiers in this unit played a role in some of WWII's most historic battles, such as the Rhine River, and Battle of the Bulge. During the course of the war, the 3rd Army captured more than a million Nazi soldiers and killed more than half a million during their campaign.
Along with the 3rd Army shoulder patch and soldier rank, this jacket also has a Meritorious Unit Commendation award. This patch was awarded to units for superior performance and achievement of exceptionally difficult tasks for at least six continuous months against an armed enemy. While the soldier's name who wore this jacket in combat is unknown, the last 4 digits of this dog-tag number stamped on the inside are '7698'.
