The gas chambers in many Germany concentration camps were designed specifically for the mass killings of Jews. Once the weak, sick, and other prisoners were undressed and herded into the room a soldier would drop Zyklon B pellets (previously used for fumigation purposes) which turned into gas when exposed to air. It is estimated that an average of 6,000 Jews a day were gassed at Auschwitz during its operation.
